Basic Calling Information
Area Codes and Local Numbers
- Area code + subscriber number in the United Kingdom always totals 10 digits.
- Area codes in the United Kingdom contain between two to five digits.
- Subscriber numbers in the United Kingdom contain between six to eight digits.
- When calling between cities within the United Kingdom, dial the Domestic Access Code ("0") before the area code. Do not dial this access code when calling from another country.
Mobile Phones
- Mobile phone numbers in the United Kingdom contain 10 digits.
- When calling a mobile phone from within the United Kingdom, always dial the Domestic Access Code ("0") before the 10-digit number. Do not dial this access code when calling from another country.
Special Numbers and Services
- Toll-free numbers start with the prefix "0-800."
- Premium numbers start with the prefix "0-930."
- Several prefixes in the format "9XX" are reserved for future use.
Tones
- Ring tone: Double ring, repeated regularly
- Busy tone: Equal length on and off tones
